I studied art gaining a foundation certificate in Fine Art from Sheffield Art College, a painting diploma with the Barnsley College of Arts and a BA (Hons) degree in Art History with Humanities through the Open University. I have also taught art therapy with Trinity Day Care Trust (a charity for the physically handicapped) since 1991.
I love to paint the mood and light of a subject, and living in the wonderful county of Yorkshire, it's not difficult to find my inspiration! In my new series of semi abstract landscapes, I have explored the strong composition elements and interpretation of the landscape around, painted with vigour and life using texture and markmaking to describe the atmosphere I want the viewer to feel.
I am attracted to a wide range of artists including Turner, Cezanne, the Impressionists and the influences of contemporary artists i.e. John Yardley, David Bellamy and Shirley Trevenna to name but a few.
I have regularly exhibited my work locally with The Great Sheffield Art Show since 1988, Hibberts Art Shop,Curo Gallery Sheffield and local village exhibitions. I have also exhibited in various exhibitions throughout the UK and sold much of my work through galleries and exhibitions. I have also completed private commission pieces.
My interests are landscapes, portraiture and still life and I constantly experiment with watercolour, pastels acrylics and oils, using a limited pallet and sometimes mixing all these mediums.
Art will always be for me an exploration of possibilities, constantly pushing boundaries in an endeavour to produce something new and exciting.
